About Our Church:
Excelsior United Methodist Church welcomes our friends and neighbors with open hearts, open minds, and open doors. Our mission is to be a welcoming Christian community that helps connect faith journeys with life’s journey and inspires sharing of time, talents, and treasures. Our vision is to be an inter-generational Christian family that nurtures the journey of faith to transform the world.
We are a Reconciling Congregation within the United Methodist Church. We believe that we are all children of God and individuals of sacred worth. We affirm Jesus’ example of love without reservation and covenant to deal compassionately and justly with each other. We welcome and affirm persons of any age, gender, race, ethnic origin, economic reality, family status, sexual orientation, diverse ability or social standing as full participants in the life and work of this reconciling congregation.
About Our Blog:
This blog is written by Excelsior United Methodist Church staff and laity. We share our thoughts and insights on matters both spiritual and sociological as we reflect on how one can connect their faith journey with their life journey in ways that are personally relevant and meaningful. The thoughts and opinions expressed on this blog are solely those of the author and do not represent an official posture of Excelsior UMC, the Minnesota UMC Annual Conference, or global UMC.
Current Contributing Authors:
Nate Melcher is the Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry at Excelsior UMC (2005-present). He is a Dean of LYFE Camp, a week-long junior high camp focused on fun, friends, and faith in the Camp Minnesota ministry. Nate is the Program Action Team convener for the Minnesota UMC Retreats and Camping Ministry Team, and is creating new “classic” camps aimed at clergy and youth leaders who are new to camping ministry and want to expose their youth group to its potential. Nate is a second-year M.Div student at United Theological Seminary, is a declared candidate for ordination in the UMC, and gets a little cranky at youth lock-ins at around 3:00am.
